Decision Taken Against Fethullah Gulen Terror Organization By Asian Parliamentary Assembly
On 15 July 2016, Turkey experienced a coup attempt, perpetrated by an armed faction and their civilian collaborators belonging to the Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organization (FETO).
At the 9th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Cambodia on 28 November-1 December 2016, the Member Parliaments adopted a Resolution containing the following paragraph which designates FETO as a "terrorist organization" and calls upon the APA member countries for action against FETO:
"Declare our full solidarity with the people and democratically elected government of Turkey in its fight against the Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organization in order to uphold democracy, justice, security and stability in the country, calling on member countries of APA to take necessary measures against the Terrorist Organization."
The full text of the said Resolution is attached hereto.
Alongside Turkey, the Parliaments of 41 countries are represented at APA.
The decision taken by APA follows similar decisions taken in October 2016, by the 43rd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and by the Gulf Cooperation Council, also designating FETO as a "terrorist organization".
